Tom Morgan approved

I recently contacted Tom Morgan of Tom Morgan Rodsmiths to talk about his new fiberglass rods/blanks that were so highly anticipated by many of us.

He very much liked my work and after changing a few emails where we shared our stories about how we got into the sport of fly fishing, he invited me to become a dealer/rodmaker of his fiberglass rod blanks.

I was humbled. It is something I dreamed about ever since I first read about Tom Morgan's rod building legacy, passion and life. Surely is something to remember.

There is a pretty long waiting list for a Tom Morgan fiberglass rod blank but I'm most certain that the long wait will be well worth it.

I ordered one of his standard actions, a seven foot three weight fiberglass rod blank, for the start.

The blanks retail for $295. The special, lazer engraved tubes retail for $53. Bags retail for $27.

Most beautiful glass blank out there. This Kabuto brown 7033 just arrived from Japan and it's almost ready to be wrapped. Stay close!

  

Swift Epic test cast

Test casted the Epic 580 today. 

Rio Gold #5 line. Abel Creek #1 reel was the perfect reel for this light five weight rod. 

The rod has a pretty fast taper and very light weight. It's very accurate in close and medium distances. The tip loads easy and it's crisp and precise. Very delicate presentations glass is known for. Plenty of reserve power in the butt section.

For longer distances I felt that I needed more load (#6 line) to get into the butt section for efective casts. Off the tip casts work well in close and medium distances, are fun and easy to do with the Epic 580. 

If you're a graphite guy that wants to try the "feel" of fiberglass, and looking for a rod to make some very precise and smooth casts ( with big dries, nymphs or streamers), the Epic 580 is one fiberglass rod you should consider.

 

 

T.F.M. Swift Epic

Carl McNeil of Swift Fly Fishing sent this gorgeus Epic 580 blank to be built and then demoed through Cameron Mortenson with his T.F.M. Rod Loan Program. 

The rod will be casted and fished across the US and will help people decide on what blank to choose for that one-of-a-kind fly rod.
 

The T.F.M. Swift Epic 580 was fitted to be a true "workhorse" of a five weight. It features Snake Brand Universal snake guides, chestnut silk wraps, a Lemke black anodized reel seat and walnut wood spacer. Grip is a flor grade half wells hand turned in the shop. 

I'm looking forward to see and build more of these beauties in the future!
