Sage Mod

Finished another Mod three ninety. This was a popular model from Sage over the years ever since it came out and one of their best and distinctive nine foot three weights.

With deeper loading and snappy tip action it gives powerful yet smooth deliveries with a long leader and has the ability to load for close in shots. This slim, lime green beauty is addictive.

Appointed in my classic, minimalist clean style with Sage black signature wraps and clear main silk wraps. A gorgeous Struble zebra wood insert with Lemke black anodized hardware are a perfect match.

The swoop style, black anodized winding check is a nice touch as well for a smooth transition from cork to blank. The classic "Winston style" hook keeper is made by hand.

Flor grade, natural "spotted" snub-nose cork handle.

This was a commisioned build and possibly one of the last blanks remaining.

Sage X 597-4

This is a refurbished rod I did for a friend who bought the rod on ebay. Not an easy job and not something I like doing but some blanks deserve it. Believe or not, this rod was fitted with a Fugi spinning reel seat made of plastic.

Classic Sage style wraps but with two modern Fuzi Torzite titanium stripping guides this time and titanium snake guides. The Struble nickel silver U20 reel seat was brought back to life from an older Sage TCR and received a new vera wood insert and some nice polishing. A bit longer handle than my usual snub-nose handles helps balancing this longer rod nicely in hand.

The new X is quite a rod. I could cast easier and smoother than rods in the past. I think Sage went with a friendlier fast action rod that everyone can enjoy without tiring their wrist or arm. This is a great lake or big river rod.

I wish I had done better pics and some before the rod was restored. Thanks for looking!

Hanak Superlight 10' #4

I finished this rod a while ago. This must be one sweet looking nymphing stick.

The Struble zebra wood coupled with the gold accents complement the light brown-olive colored blank beautifully. Hand made steel wire hook keeper with beautiful ultrapolished Struble nickel silver winding check.

Simply and cleanly appointed like usual, this rod "screams" quality.

I went for a snub-nose half wells grip because this rod will also be used to cast light streamers.

Very light in hand for a ten foot four weight, this is your high end, big river nymphing rod that's not too stiff nor tiring. Handcrafted leather case for this beauty. Here are a few pics.
